Wedding Photojournalism
As a wedding photographer, my goal is to capture a moment within the frame. At the end of the day, my images should tell a complete story from start to finish. All of this is done without assistance or persuasion from the wedding photographer. It is my job to document the day, as it happens, in a creative and unique fashion.
Often I hear from brides to be on how they prefer unposed shots or enjoy candids more than the typical “look at me and say cheese” photos. These brides are predisposed to something called Wedding Photojournalism.
While Wedding Photojournalism does include the unposed or candid shots, it extends much further that that. Wedding Photojournalism is about capturing a moment and telling the story of that moment within the frame of the image. This is wedding photography at its best. If an image can present to you a moment in time and convey to you the emotion and the story of that moment, you have an image with lasting value. Future generations will look back on that photo and the same story and emotions will be conveyed to them. It is timeless.
Many fads come and go in wedding photography, from selective coloring to certain poses and “canned shots”. While formal portraits are important and should be taken, it is my philosophy that the images should stand on their own without extreme photoshop gimmickry. For this reason, my posed images do not contain selective coloring (black and white photo with colored flowers), artificial blurring, digital mist, etc. There is a market for those techniques and photographers that use them, its just not for me.
At the end of the day, your wedding album should read like a story book. From the bridal prep to the exit, it should tell the entire story of the day. This is what I strive for, and hopefully, something you are interested in as well.
