The happy couple had many unique things planned throughout the day including a Tarheels tattoo (much to the Duke Fan Groom’s chagrin) and a heart felt song performed by Taylor at the reception. The reception ended with a glow stick exit, something becoming more and more popular.

This was a fun group of folks who had an amazing time. The wedding was coordinated by Cortenay Munn Matters of Carolina Wedding Design. If you are needing help with your wedding, definitely give her a call. Entertainment was provided by Levar with Split Second Sound. Levar was fairly impressed with my subtle dance moves I believe. Hair and Makeup by Kymm McLean of Whos the Fairest.  I have worked with Kymm hundreds of times and she has always delivered, if you need hair and makeup for anything  just book her, don’t ask questions, just book her. Videography provided by Crown Alley Films who are always fun to work with.

The day started off with a scare in the form of a torrential downpour, but luckily the ladies of The Charmed Event were there to save the day. These rock star wedding planners coordinated all of the tables and place settings to be brought in, chair cushions to be removed, food to be salvaged, etc. It was like watching a military exercise. After about an hour the rain had passed, the back yard was decorated once again, and it turned out to be a perfect evening.

Her wedding was planned by Style Perfect Weddings and Events and entertainment provided by Vinny with Split Second Sound who always gets the reception hopping.

A sign was made for Ashley’s brother who is currently serving in Afghanistan but remained in everyone’s thoughts. Ashley and Doug had also prepared a special dance (pictured below) that they executed flawlessly.

They held a traditional Jewish ceremony complete with Ketubah that was written in Hebrew, English, and Spanish, a nod to their cultural diversity. There were several Rabbis in attendance, including the groom. The crowd was extremely festive and the dancing went late into the evening.

Interesting note, I found out during the wedding one of our engagement session pictures is being used by JDate as a huge ad in Time Square…

Despite a torrential down pour during the ceremony, the day went off without a hitch. Luckily, we were able to sneak out before the rain started to grab some fun photos the Lake offers. We met with wedding planner Heather Bryson of Carolina Wedding Design (highly recommended) at their home and set off to a local park and and around my studio in NoDa. Another idea they had was to take a few shots at the uptown ice skating rink. While there, I noticed a nearby spot with lights in the trees that would also make for a nice shot. I have to say the ice skating shots were some of the more difficult I have ever done. Low light, crowded ice rink. That made shooting the NFL on Sundays seem like child’s play.

In the end it paid off. Here are a few of my favorites of the day….

The two are ordained ministers who met at Wake Forest University.

We braved the rain armed with an umbrella for a few fun portraits, somethign not every bride has a chance to do!

All in all it was a spirited night with plenty of fellowship and dancing with family and friends…

What the heck is happening here? Believe it or not, this effect was done in camera and was intentional. Showing the energy of the dance floor is something not done enough in this industry!

Their traditional jewish ceremony was conducted indoors, a challenging task for any photographer. If at all possible I typically avoid the use of any flash during a ceremony. It tends to take away form the ambiance of the moment as well as become a major distraction from such an important moment.

Makeup was provided by Kymm who always can be relied upon to do a fantastic job. Cake Lady Jill did the amazing cake shown below.

All in all a great day and fun wedding to shoot!

Music was provided by the live band Hipshack who I had not worked with before. They did a great job of keeping the dance floor moving and was a great fit for this fun crowd.
